Cakebread’s flagship Napa Valley Chardonnay opens with aromas of ripe green and golden apple, accented by fresh white peach and light oak. Across the palate, this golden wine is silken in texture with flavors of apple, citrus and pear balanced by refreshing acidity. The long finish is clean, with underlying hints of minerality, vanilla, and lemon.
Pretty, sustained yellow hue with green tints, nice ripe aromas of citrus, grapefruit, and hazelnut on the nose, fresh on the palate, with lovely long-lasting flavors.
The nose smells rich and inviting, with notes of lemon oil, almond brioche, and a tropical mélange of lychee, pineapple, and kiwi surrounding the core of tangerine and zesty Eureka lemon. This decadence is continued in the mouth, which is creamy with honeyed citrus and pear, along with exotic guava and hazelnut, but always with the fresh lemon/lime center keeping it lively.
The textbook 2019 Chardonnay is elegant and subtle, seamless and integrated, with moderate alcohol and great freshness, finishing dry and very tasty.
Bright and lively, the 2021 vintage opens with aromas of lemon zest, kumquat, toasted almonds, hint of wet stone and flint, light fresh cut herbs. This wine immediately enchants with a silky entry and vibrant flavors of grilled citrus, light green melon and toasted oak that expand across the mid palate all the way until the finish.
The 2022 Grayson Chardonnay is brilliantly ripe and shows bright, brisk acidity and good minerality with notes of pineapple and apricot. The palate offers green apple fruit with a crisp finish showing gentle hints of apple pie and vanilla flavors.
